How to Maintain Your Stainless Steel Kitchen Islands

Stainless steel as a material is incredible desirable among commercial restaurant owners and avid cooks. Why? It is well-known that stainless steel counter tops have special bacteria-resistant qualities as well as a unique ability to retain heat. This means that if you are a chef at a busy restaurant, you can put your plates down right after you make it and have it still be hot seconds later. You also don't have to worry about having bacterias get near the food. All this said, you should keep maintaining your stainless steel kitchen island and periodically clean it.

Stainless steel kitchen island furniture is relatively easy to maintain and take care of. They can stand up to hot pans without warping or cracking. Oil and acid spills come right out. Also, because stainless steel counter tops are usually synthesized together as a singular unit, there are seldom any crevices or seams that would potentially harbor any hidden germs. For the daily maintenance, only simple steps need be taken to preserve the appearance of the surface.

There are two major ways to cleaning stainless steel kitchen islands: dry cleaning or wet cleaning. Dry cleaning consists of a wipe down with a soft microfiber cloth. You can spray a mild cleaning solution if you wish. For wet cleaning, use a damp soft cloth and a little mild dish soap. Afterwards, you would rinse down the surface and dry it again with a soft towel. The only downside to a wet cleaning is the potential for watermarks and smudges. In this case, spray it with a sheen made specifically for stainless steel surfaces. This polished solution will remove streaks. If you would like to take the natural approach, you can make your own home-made version with just a few tablespoons of undiluted white or cider vinegar. As long as you don't neglect your stainless steel kitchen islands and contribute to their periodic upkeep, you should be able to have a good working kitchen island for years to come.
