How to Clean Your Portable Kitchen Island

When it comes to time for Spring cleaning, do you dread having to touch your kitchen? What about the huge kitchen island that sits in the middle? Perhaps when you purchased it, it was like the darling of your kitchen. It sat there in the center of the room, basking in all the attention of being so independent and attractive. Now, it has gathered a bit of dust and all the things inside the base are becoming a great big mess. Here's a simple guide to cleaning your portable kitchen island that will make it seem not as intimidating as it appears.

The good thing about a portable kitchen island is the fact that you can physically move it anywhere you want. Since you have to take all the things out of it eventually when cleaning, you can do so before you cart it into another more spacious room because it'll be lighter and therefore more transportable. Now that you have a bigger area to work in, you can start by using a soft clean cloth to wipe the whole surface of the kitchen island with a cleaning solution that is gentle on wood products. Next, wipe the countertop surface of the portable kitchen island. It is important that you know specifically what kind of material your countertop is composed of. If it's a stainless steel, you can use most any cleaner that doesn't leave watermarks. With wood-based countertops such as butcher blocks, it would be wiser to steer clear of any solution with alcohol, acetone, or acids. Even though alot of butcher block counter tops are designed to be strong and resist most elements, acid is something that will get through even the sturdiest grooves of the wood. However, if you simply use hot water and soap, you can clear any microbes crawling around on the surface. Once you are done, the surface of the base and the counter should be smooth and shiny.

Now, that you have finished, you can put back all the various effects that you took out earlier. Organize them according to different categories. For example, you would naturally place all the spices in a spice rack and if your portable kitchen island doesn't come with one, simply stand them next to each other. Put cookbooks on another shelf. The kitchen tools can be organized in a cannister or if available, you can place them on the hooks to the side of the base. Most kitchen islands or work tables make it easy for you to assemble and organize things. The last thing you have left to do is to simply push the portable kitchen island back into the kitchen. If you don't want to have to clean it out in a few weeks, try your best to maintain it as tidy as possible.
